Listen to this post
I came across ElevenLabs while making a fun/dumb video, just playing around with various AI tools. What caught my attention was their impressive AI-generated speech technology.
Their text-to-speech synthesis produces natural-sounding voices like I’ve never heard before, a big step up from the robotic sound I’m used to. This could be great for creating more engaging audio and video content.
What really intrigued me was their dubbing feature. It can change the language of a video while maintaining the original voice’s character. As a developer, I immediately saw the potential for creating multilingual content that feels authentic….. Or, just make you’re mates sound German ;P
The platform is user-friendly, which I appreciate. It offers good customization options for adjusting voice characteristics like pitch and emotion, although every now and again you do still hear those artifacts that make you question reality.
For fellow developers, they provide API integration, opening up possibilities for incorporating these voice capabilities into our own applications.
Another feature they have (which I’m yet to play around with) is called Audio Native. This is an embedded player that you can put on your website to read the page as an audio player. I think that would be pretty cool, imagine being able to listen to this post in the cloned version of my voice!
My Experience with Voice Cloning
I had the chance to try out ElevenLabs’ voice cloning feature, and the results were nothing short of amazing. I provided a sample of my voice, and the AI created a clone that was eerily accurate. Hearing my own voice reading text was a surreal experience—it captured not just the sound, but the nuances and inflections of my speech. This technology is a powerful tool for content creators looking to maintain a personal touch in their audio content.
This is not me:
Demo: Original and Dubbed YouTube Voiceovers
To truly showcase the power of ElevenLabs’ dubbing capabilities, here are two video demos. The first video is the original YouTube content, and the second is the same video dubbed in another language, all while preserving the original speaker’s voice characteristics.
